Anja Niedringhaus, Pulitzer photographer killed in Afghanistan

Anja were shot dead while sitting in her car while another reporter got injured badly during traveling to cover the Presidential election in eastern Afghanistan.¦

 Anja Niedringhaus, age 48, and Kathy Gannon, age 60, journalist were shot by the man who dressed in police uniform which is now in custody.  Anja Niedringhaus died immediately and Kathy Gannon was severe injured but now his condition is stable. This is the third time in the past three weeks that foreign journalists have been targeted. Firstly, Swedish journalist Nils Horner, age 52, was killed in front of supermarket in downtown in Kabul and secondly Sardar Ahmad, Afghan journalist from AFP, his wife and 2 children were shot by 4 gunmen in luxury hotel. His youngest boy survived.

This attack happened one day before the national election in Afghanistan as the Taliban have vowed to disrupt the elections.

Anja Niedringhaus is Pulitzer awarded from her works covering the Iraq war. Santiago Lyon – VP of Agency Press and Director of photography said that, even though Anja was in the dark circumstance, she still concentrate on doing her job. She believes in being photo witness of important situation and she is also generous to other. Her colleague said also that she was known as war photographer but actually she was an artist. She had sensibility to understand the situation better than other, always get in and get out with exclusive photos.
