The exhibition ROMA AMOR discusses the ugly truth of Italian reality. The word ROMA, meaning Rome, is reversed to AMOR or Love in Italian language. La Franca juxtaposes two different images of Italian landmarks in the most dramatic contrast. One symbolizes the cultural decay through the lens of ‘Inferno,’ masked by the gruesome scene in animal slaughterhouse. The other represents the city in rebirth through the lens of ‘smile,’ with reference to the story in 390 B.C. when geese saved the Rome by squawking to awake the soldiers against the intruding enemy.
